I start my getting my grips on the targeted arm. Same side wrist control & cross elbow control (thumb down). After I get Alex’s elbow to my midline the hand that was controlling Alex’s wrist switches to his shoulder to control his posture.

Once I control Alex’s arm and posture I then place my foot on his hip. This foot on the hip will propel me to a perpendicular position. I bring my other leg up to Alex’s upper back and lay it perpendicular to his spine.

After I get my angle I can use the inside of my knee on Alex’s far shoulder to get an extra pivot and to slide my hips into a better position.

An alternative to the knee pivot is to place my foot on the mat. That’ll propel the pivot and will slide my hips under Alex’s shoulder.

The cout de grâce is throwing my leg over Alex’s head. This will seal the armbar. I can now lift my hips while holding Alex’s arm tight to my chest allowing me to finish the armbar from closed guard.
